NURSING STUDENT: A SLEEK GEEK

 GEEK
n.
     - an earnest student; a hardworking student

SLEEK
adj. sleek·er, sleek·est
     - well - groomed and neatly tailored

Being called a geek has been known to be an insult. It has been a stereotype in our generation; geeks had been bullied, laughed at, and well, insulted. There had been many cases wherein geeks killed themselves because they’ve had enough of the insults that were thrown to them everyday in school. A geek may be hated but it has been proven that most geeks are now the bosses of those who bullied them in school.

A geek, as defined, is a hardworking/earnest student. So, for us nursing students, it’s just okay for us to be called geeks because all of us are hardworking students; hardworking in a way that we drown our faces in our colored notebooks just to pass the 80 % passing mark.

A nursing student of Cebu Doctors’ University is a sleek geek: we are well – groomed hardworking students. It has been a rule set by the college that our guys need to cut their hair short and for the girls to tie their hair properly or put in a bun. We were taught by the college to wear our uniform properly and with grace. Thus, we, the nursing students of Cebu Doctors’ University are SLEEK GEEKS.

Our class, BSN3H, has been known to be one of the noisiest sections ever but we are also known to be the class where the versatile SBO vice president, Mr. Ramon Matthew Basabe, and the batch’s RLE Top 1: Ms. Mariel Jaen Paler, belong.

“Nursing is an art:  and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painter's or sculptor's work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God's spirit?  It is one of the Fine Arts:  I had almost said the finest of Fine Arts.”  ~Florence Nightingale
